  56.      Installation Instructions:

  58.      The PATCHXTR.CMD and PATCH.EXE files discussed in this procedure require
  59.      OS/2 v1.1 or later.
  60.  
  61.      The XTROS2.EXE file contains the following:
  62.  
  63.      -  This Readme document
  64.      -  PATCH.EXE (a utility Novell provides for installing product patches)
  65.      -  PATCHXTR.CMD (a batch file to facilitate patch installation)
  66.      -  Xtrieve PLUS Patch files (XTRIEVE.411 and XQLCALLS.211)
  67.      -  Replacement files (files with the same names as the files they
  68.         replace)
  69.  
  70.      To update Xtrieve PLUS v4.11, complete the following steps:
  71.  
  72.      1.   Create a directory on your system, and copy the XTROS2.EXE file to
  73.           that directory.
  74.  
  75.      2.   Use the utility PKUNZIP.EXE to unzip the zipped files.
  76.  
  77.      3.   Install the Xtrieve PLUS patch files (XTRIEVE.411 and XQLCALLS.211)
  78.           as follows:
  79.  
  80.           a.   Refer to the list of patch files in the section of this Readme
  81.                file entitled "Original File Information," find the original
  82.                files on your system, and ensure that your original files match
  83.                those listed.
  84.  
  85.           NOTE:     This patch is cumulative; it contains all previous patches
  86.                     to Xtrieve PLUS v4.11 for OS/2.    Consequently, if you
  87.                     installed a previous patch, you should restore the
  88.                     original files by reinstalling them from the installation
  89.                     diskettes, or by renaming the XTRIEVE.ORG file (created
  90.                     during the previous patch installation) to XTRIEVE.EXE.

  92.           b.   Use the DOS COPY command to copy the original files into the
  93.                directory that contains the unzipped patch files from
  94.                XTROS2.EXE.
  95.  
  96.           c.   Run PATCHXTR, which verifies that you are patching the original
  97.                released version of the software, applies the patch, and gives
  98.                the original files an .ORG extension.
  99.  
  100.           d.   Use the DOS COPY command to copy the patched files back to the
  101.                original file's directory.
  102.  
  103.      4.   Install the replacement files as follows:
  104.  
  105.           a.   Find the directory that contains the original files to be
  106.                replaced.
  107.  
  108.           b.   Before copying the replacement files, back up the original
  109.                files to a diskette or to another directory.
  110.  
  111.           c.   Use the COPY command to replace the original files with the new
  112.                files.
  113.  
  114.      5.   After applying the patches, you can remove the directory you created
  115.           to store the XTROS2.EXE file.  You may also want to verify the
  116.           version numbers when you load each program.  The version numbers
  117.           should match those listed in the next section, "Patch File
  118.           Information."
